Disposable Vapes vs Pod Systems: Which Should You Choose?
By Aussie Vape Team · 20 June 2026
Two device types make up most of what Australians buy: disposable vapes and refillable pod systems. They suit different people, so here is a quick guide to the difference and how to pick.
What is a disposable vape?
A disposable is an all-in-one device that comes prefilled and charged, ready to use out of the box. Most are draw-activated, so there are no buttons — you simply inhale on the mouthpiece. When it runs out, you replace it. They are the simplest place to start and great for trying flavours. Browse disposable vapes.
What is a pod system?
A pod system (or pod kit) is a reusable device with a rechargeable battery and a refillable or replaceable pod. You top it up with e-liquid yourself. There is a little more to learn, but the cost per puff is usually lower over time. Browse pod systems and kits.
Cost over time
Disposables have no upfront setup, but you buy a whole new device each time. If you vape regularly, a refillable pod usually works out cheaper because you only re-buy e-liquid. One way to lower the cost of disposables is to buy in multi-packs, where the price per device drops as the pack size goes up.
Which should you choose?
- Choose a disposable if you want zero setup, are trying flavours, or vape occasionally.
- Choose a pod system if you vape regularly and want the lowest long-term cost and more control over flavour and strength.
